“Escultura”

In the newest work of Uruguayan-born sculptor Cecilia Miguez, the meticulous arrangement of real and imagined detail creates images of startling intimacy and haunting beauty.

Incorporating found objects into her unique woodcarving and bronze casting, Miguez’ elongated female figures stroll dreamily as in procession.  A solitary face, half hidden in a tangle of rough-edged foliage, peers knowingly over the top of an old wooden bucket.  Sirens with antlers for headgear and claws for feet entwine themselves as in secret conversation.

In this psychologically provocative world, the hunter merges with the hunted;  masculine and feminine reenvisaged.  Miguez’sculpture, with a nod to Hieronymus Bosch, presents a natural world of unnatural conditions:  unnatural conditions that seem simultaneously true, surreal and elegant.

In addition to Ms. Miguez’ inclusion in many noted private collections, her work has been featured in exhibitions in California, Canada, Uruguay, and Argentina.  The gallery represents Ms. Miguez exclusively in the United States.  This will be her third solo show with Louis Stern Fine Arts.

There will be an artist’s reception held in conjunction with the West Hollywood Gallery Association on Saturday, March 3, from 6 pm to 9pm.
