Kymber Holt is known for her detailed paintings of organic forms and biological processes, in which microscopic patterns and interactions are rendered both monumental and mystical. Over the course of her career, Holt has also worked in sculpture and mixed media.
Of her work, Holt says: “My work unfolds out of an interest in biological structures and the process of seeing. Within are meditations on repetition, reproduction, and pattern. By interweaving different orders of space and surface, the work brings forward visual analogies found throughout the tiny and vast designs of nature. The designs inherent in living structures offer a text that reflect on the nature of mind and the morphology of perception.”
Holt received her BA from California State University, Long Beach, and her MFA from the University of California Irvine. She has been exhibited in both solo and group shows at major Southern California art venues, including Roberts & Tilton (now Roberts Projects) in Los Angeles, CA; Jan Kesner Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Louis Stern Fine Arts, West Hollywood, CA; Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Santa Monica, CA; the Armory Center in Pasadena, CA; the University of California Irvine, CA; Sherry Frumkin Gallery in Santa Monica, CA; and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. She has also been exhibited in group shows in Texas and Washington State. Her work has been praised in the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, and Artillery Magazine, among others.
