AMERICAN & EUROPEAN POST-IMPRESSIONISM
1880 - 1920
FEBRUARY 1, 1991 - MARCH 5, 1991
LOUIS STERN GALLERIES opens an important exhibition of Post-Impressionist works from two continents. Significant French artists to be shown include Georges d'Espagnat, Armand Guillaumin, Henri Lebasque, Maximilien Luce, Henry Moret, Paul Signac, and Louis Valtat. Works by notable American artists Edwin Austin Abbey, Patrick Henry Bruce, Theodore Butler, Rinaldo Cuneo and George Gardner Symons will also be on exhibit.
The show examines the various ways in which the stylistic innovations of major Impressionist artists like Monet and Pissarro, as well as later Post-Impressionist artists such as Cezanne, influenced a younger generation of painters.
The subjects are diverse. From landscape to still-life, from portraiture to urban street scenes, the exhibition sensitively explores the new ways of seeing and experiencing nature and the world at large that stimulated so many artists at the turn of the century.
Hours:
