TRANSART CORPORATION opens an exhibition of mixed media works that explore the ongoing fascination with the symphony of parts comprising the human body. The exhibition will be on view from May 11 through June 22. The public is invited to take part in an informal evening of "Conversations with the Artists" to be held at the gallery on May 18, 5:30-8:00 pm.
Each part of our bodies is composed of the most basic qualities: color, shape, texture. It is this simple sensual grounding that physically identifies one as an individual. Though all bodies share the same basic makeup, one can often recognize the whole person by viewing just a hand, or a nose.
This exhibition includes works which encourage the viewer to take a moment to reexamine the body and all of its intricacies. Many of the artists appreciate the flowing form of the body as a whole. Others remove individual parts from their normal context to highlight the often missed peculiarities or expressive potential of the isolated element.
The featured artists represent a variety of perspectives ranging from classical to more interpretive, manipulative, treatments of the body. Included will be Dan Abramson, Alexander and Little, John Altoon, Nicholas Africano, Herbert Bayer, Horace Bristol, Joseph Cornell, Mario Donna, Blake Edwards, Michael Faye, Arshile Gorky, LouAnne Greenwald, John Grigley, Allen Jones, Yves Klein, Leor Levine, F. Lhote, Alan Magee, Graydon Moffat, Howard Newman, Helmut Newton, Jean Patterson, Jeff Reese, Gustav Troger, Max Weber, Leigh Wiener, Tom Wesselmann, Francisco Zuniga, and others.
Body Parts will be on view during gallery hours: Monday through Friday, 10-6, Saturday, 11-5. Municipal parking is available adjacent to the gallery.
