CIVIL DISTURBANCE

Los Angeles 1992

September 1 through September 30, 1992

Louis Stern Galleries announces a photography exhibition which focuses on the riots that took place in L.A. after the Rodney King verdict last April. The goal of the show is to explore, through the photographer's lens, the different ways in which this tragedy has been seen, experienced, and interpreted.

The gallery has received materials from photojournalists, fashion and advertising photographers, fine art photographers, and the so-called man or woman on the street. Some photographers have used the medium as a means of documentation; others have manipulated it, using collage, montage and other less traditional techniques. There is an interesting contrast of the visions of the professional and the amateur photographer. By this juxtaposition we hope to present a broad and challenging field of perception and understanding. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition will be contributed to the rebuilding of Los Angeles.

The gallery is open to the public, Monday through Friday 10-6 and Saturday 11-5. Municipal parking is available adjacent to the gallery.
