“At school I wanted to become an artist and paint the sea, but in the 70’s, one had to have a proper profession, so I pursued the other side of my brain and did law,” writes artist Fiona Pattinson. After completing her law degree with the University of Adelaide, Ms. Pattinson became an assistant to the Premier of Antigua. Then, after a period of extensive travel, Pattinson rerouted herself back toward the arts, graduating from the National Art School, East Sydney Technical College. Then, in yet another sea change, Pattinson embarked upon a highly successful career as a stylist for film and television in her native Australia.
However, a family visit to a childhood beach reawakened her old dreams. Working with mixed media on stretched maritime canvas, Pattinson conjures the spacious blues of sea and sky with an effortless heartfelt poetry. Now landed in Hollywood with her husband movie director Michael Pattinson and son Jesse, Pattinson celebrates her first American public showing with this exhibition at Louis Stern Fine Arts.
