Louis Stern Fine Arts will open the exhibition Joyce Treiman: Paintings and Drawings on March 9, 1996.
Joyce Treiman (1922-1991) was born in Chicago in 1922. he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1943. There, she studied art under Philip Guston. A subsequent trip to Europe introduced her to the work of Renaissance masters, such as Piero della Francesca and Paolo Nuelo, the Impressionists, and the modern paintings of de Chirico and Picasso. Treiman had lived in California since 1960. Her handling of landscape and the human figure is always powerful and causes the viewer to consider the surreal nature of life.
Treman’s work has been shown in over thirty solo exhibitions in galleries and museums, and has been seen in over a hundred important group shows. She has won over two dozen major awards, and her work is included in many important public and museum collections. The Louis Stern Fine Arts exhibition will showcase a variety of Treiman’s oil paintings and works on paper, with an emphasis on small-scale landscape paintings and works on paper.
A reception will be held in conjunction with the other West Hollywood Gallery openings on Saturday, March 9th, from 5pm-8pm. Joyce Treiman: Paintings and Drawings will be on view during gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday, 10am-6pm and Saturday, 11am-5pm. Parking is available on the street and in the Apcoa parking lot on Melrose Avenue, west of Almont Drive.
