Lorser Feitelson and Helen Lundeberg defined the Post-Surrealist and Hard Edge painting genres, were crucial to the development of innumerable young artists and championed a fresh-eyed embrace of all manner of thoughtful, provocative art. Their individual contributions to the vitality of the Los Angeles art scene are documented in exhibition list after exhibition list and image after image. However, their partnership, their shared commitment to the practice of art making and their devotion to the highest creative good in each other is a modern miracle or at least an art world miracle.
Featuring work executed from 1919 to 1987, this exhibition seeks to explore the kindred visual themes that occur throughout their collective body of work. It marks the beginning of an extensive exhibition program that will be continued and developed online, culminating in the publication of an exhibition catalogue.
This exhibition series is a joint project of Louis Stern Fine Arts and the Lorser Feitelson and Helen Lundeberg Feitelson Arts Foundation. The gallery is the exclusive representative of the estates of Lorser Feitelson and Helen Lundeberg.
