Louis Stern Fine Arts opens a group exhibition of Realist work from the last several decades. In the analytical climate of contemporary art, our understanding of pictorial representation is constantly challenged. The artists in Stern’s show examine this idea of representation, and the idea of the Real, from a variety of perspectives.
Rather than rely on an abstract vocabulary of color and form to express their ideas, Realists begin with the visual world, one might say they begin with seeing. The artists take what they see very seriously, not only as a catalyst for self-expression, but as a way to find feeling in the everyday world. At its best, Realist work can change the way we perceive our physical environment, can even endow that environment with new meaning and energy. The artists in Real, Is It? take a provocative look at our world, and through painstaking technique, show us what they have discovered.
Atists to be included in the show: John Baeder, Richard Baker, Martin Charlot, Stephen Douglas, F. Scott Hess, John Koch, Dan McLeary, Satoshi Morikawa, Linda Stevens Moyer, John Nava, Astrid Preston, Erin Scott, Stephen Verona, Peter Zokosky, and others.
Real, Is It? will be on view during gallery hours: Tues. - Fri. 10-6pm and Saturday, 11-5pm.
